“A House Is Not Just a House”: Campaign Highlighting the Importance of Home in People’s Lives

This initiative responds to the alarming situation of more than two million families in the country who today need government assistance to access dignified housing.

A house is the place we return to after a long day, where we seek rest and refuge, where dreams are shared, meals are enjoyed, and the future is planned. This is the space we aim to highlight through "A House Is Not Just a House", a public awareness campaign designed to emphasize the critical role that housing and home play in people's lives.

According to data provided by our Studies and Public Policy team, more than two million Chilean families require state assistance to access adequate housing, facing various forms of precarious living conditions—from life in informal settlements to homelessness, irreparable homes, overcrowding, and shared housing. Today, access to housing is increasingly difficult due to several factors, including rising real estate prices. This situation creates a growing gap between those who can secure a home and those who find themselves excluded from this opportunity.

The "A House Is Not Just a House" Campaign:

"A house is not just a roof over our heads. It is the refuge where you find your place, where we build the future together with our loved ones," said our Executive Director, Sebastián Bowen, about the "A House Is Not Just a House" campaign. This initiative, led by our organization, aims to shift the perception of housing as merely a livable space, encouraging reflection on the value of a house for individuals and families, and through this heartfelt citizen appeal, underscore the need for comprehensive solutions to address the housing crisis in Chile.

The campaign features real testimonies from people who share the dream of providing their families with a home where they can live and build a future. For some, a house means clean sheets; for others, it represents peace, creativity, and a safe haven for the family.
